Kurrumbede Open Day - Saturday 9 May 2026
Come and explore the home of Dorothea Mackellar, the heritage listed Kurrumbede property.
The Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Society is proud to partner with Whitehaven Coal to celebrate local history at the Kurrumbede Open Day this Mother’s Day weekend.
Take a step back in time and explore the history of the heritage-listed Kurrumbede property, originally owned by the iconic Mackellar family, as its grounds and historic buildings are open to the public to enjoy.
Featuring pony rides, family activities, live entertainment and heritage demonstrations, market stalls and delicious food. The day will be an opportunity to learn about the history of the property, and the family of the famed poet Dorothea Mackellar.
Located 25 kilometres north west of Gunnedah on the Namoi River, Kurrumbede is an iconic piece of local history that has only been opened to the public four times in the last 100 years.
