The Dorothea Mackellar Centre

The Dorothea Mackellar Centre is located on South Street (Anzac Park), Gunnedah.

The centre invites poetry lovers from near and far to step into a vibrant world of words. Discover Dorothea Mackellar's poetry in the very town that sparked her imagination. Explore the rich archives of the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards and visit the heart of the national poetry competition.

In the Bill Clegg Wing, the Jean Isherwood Water Colour Collection brings the verses of “My Country” to life in vivid colour, making it a must-see for every visitor.

The Mackellar Centre is open to the general public every Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 10am and 1pm.

The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Society Inc. manages the Centre. The Society is made up of local, passionate volunteers.

Entry to the Centre is by way of a gold coin donation.

Tour groups are welcome by appointment only.
